The Futility of this World
I just finished watching a Nollywood movie titled “Citygirlz”. and the need to feed and fill my mind with the things of God was loud.
I saw my old self in that movie. #slayqueentinz.
I was watching this movie of the world from a now different and distant perspective. I couldn’t believe that used to be me deep into the emptiness of the world.
Partying, clubbing, sensuality, sex, lust, drunkenness, attention, worldly pleasure. That was my lifestyle. Sin truly is shiny and attractive and often feels good. But like a frog being boiled alive slowly, unbeknowngst to it, are those still living in these sinful lifestyles.
Once Jesus saves you and opens your blind eyes it’s amazing how you can see the depths of just how lost you were. If not for His grace, where would I be?
Following the way of the world, the broad road, truly only leads to depression, destruction and eternal death..
The gate to life is truly narrow and hard. Jesus said “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Matthew 7:13-14
I remember when I was unsaved and I had one foot in the world and the other in religion. I was holding on to the shiny things in the world and I wasn’t ready to give up the fun to be godly. I just thought being born again looked like it was such a boring life. Oh how the enemy deceives! Now in Jesus, I found the greatest peace, joy, love that the world could have never given me and cannot give.
Nothing and nobody apart from Jesus will satisfy that void in your soul so stop looking in all the wrong places.
I remember I would go to the club the night before church engaging in all sort of debauchery then end the night fornicating. The next morning I’ll be at church praise and worshipping. It was definitely my guilt and shame that drove me to church then. At some point this was my weekend routine. I was living in unrepentant unbroken sin. That is definitely not a fruit of true salvation!
To put this bluntly, if you are actively living in fornication or adultery and excusing it, you are NOT saved. I know this a heavy statement and it is not made to cast judgment on anyone, rather it is out of love and to tell the world that the end is near! REPENT! This is a grave eternal matter and so many people are deceived by the enemy. “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.” 1 John 1:3
You cannot love the world and claim to love God. James 4:4 “You adulteresses [disloyal sinners—flirting with the world and breaking your vow to God]! Do you not know that being the world’s friend [that is, loving the things of the world] is being God’s enemy? So whoever chooses to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” You can’t serve two masters, we will hate one. “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Matthew 6:24 ‘All that the world has to offer is the pride of life, lust of the flesh and lust of the eyes. 1 John 2:17 “The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” God’s Will is revealed in His Word.
Back to the movie; as I continued to watch the “Citygirlz” movie I noticed the unfortunate BBLs. It’s so sad how so many young women are mutilating their bodies like so for fame, attention and money. It is said attention is the new currency. Once again you cannot serve two masters… Giving in to your sinful flesh only leads to pain, regret and heartbreak. Jesus calls us to deny ourselves, carry our cross and follow Him through the narrow gate. Matthew 16:24
God is so patient with His children for real. We are just so rebellious loving the darkness and running away from His light and His love. Refusing to pick up His call or open the door of our heart to receive Him. Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”
After the world had broken me brutally, Jesus stepped in to comfort my crushed spirit as He promises. Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” I was hopelessly deep in the miry pit of sin and shame. He pulled me out and placed me firmly on the rock! He gave me living water so that I would never thirst again just like the woman at the well. So many years in the world had left me with deep scars and I’m thankful that Jesus is mending every broken piece with His healing love.
I was watching the movie and just thinking to myself “vanity, vanity and more vanity.” King Solomon said it best “Everything is meaningless, completely meaningless” at the end of the day. Ecclesiastes 2. He was the most famous, wisest, richest man that ever lived and he said that. Take heed. This was a man with 700 wives and 300 concubines. He had women, wealth, power, wisdom and was a king! Yet he called life meaningless. I too have come to realize that life is indeed meaningless until Jesus comes into our hearts and gives our miserable existence meaning. Praise Him!!!
Social media and celebrity culture have destroyed the concept of contentment. Covetousness, greed, lust, envy are rummaging through people more than ever. I’m convinced that social media is becoming the #1 cause of depression and anxiety nowadays. Ever since I left social media July 2022, my life has never been more joyful and peaceful. Unsaved people are truly lost, literally walking in pitch darkness unbeknownst to them. The worst of these are the religious people that actually think they’re living in the light of God. 2 Timothy 3:5 “They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!”
When I think of how God saved me from my futile life of pain and heartbreak, my heart is overwhelmed with gratitude to my Savior. While I was still living in sin, loving sin, dead in sin, Jesus died for me and now I’m alive in Christ!!! Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Who can comprehend such a glorious love?!
We are truly in the last days for sure so REPENT and turn to God now!!! To repent means to turn from sin in thoughts, desires and actions to God and righteous living. In the last days, there will be lovers of self, lovers of money…The Apostle Paul puts it this way, 2 Timothy 3:3-5 ”3 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.”
Ummm doesn’t it sound like nowadays? The Citygirls and Cityboys generation. When God destroyed the earth during Noah’s day people mocked Noah when he warned them about God’s coming judgement. They ignored him and went about enjoying their sin making merry. Matthew 24:38 “In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat.”
Repent and enter the new ark of God, which is Jesus Christ. Noah would have been institutionalized in a psychiatric ward if he was living today…Listen to the “crazy ones” of the world now. As true Christ followers we should be so opposed to the world and its evil systems that we seem crazy to the world! 2 Timothy 3:12 “Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.”
So, if you haven’t surrendered your life to Jesus as Savior and Lord over your life, cry out to God sincerely for mercy on your soul. Seek God when He can still be found. He promises in Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” God is not hiding from us, He wants to be known and for us to have fellowship and intimacy with Him. Matthew 6:33 Amplified Bible “But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.”
Through the power of the Holy Spirit I’m now walking in righteousness, chasing after God daily and I can see sin for the evil it truly is against our Holy God. I now understand what it means to be in the world but not of the world. I am a citizen of another kingdom and in my day today life, this contrast hasn’t been more evident in these last days.. The scales have fallen off my eyes and I’ll forever praise Jesus for that!
While in the world I was going aimlessly in circles and now I’m fixing my eyes heavenward; denying myself, carrying my cross and following my Jesus.
For a girl that would leave the club at 7am to now worshipping all night long till dawn could only be because of God!🙌🏾 His mercy has spoken for me and I am now FREEEEEE!!!
When Jesus saves you and you’re born again, your life is totally transformed and people must notice! It is a total supernatural transformation. The old you has passed away and you’re now a new creation in Christ. 2 Coritnhians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Therefore, your desires, thoughts, actions, dreams, ambitions, goals will now all be for the glory of God.
God’s mercy and grace over my life are so abundant and I will forever shout from the mountaintop and make the name of Jesus known and glorified! Contrary to pop Christian culture, there is no place for lukewarmness when it comes to being a true born again Christ follower. It’s all in or nothing at all! I am living now joyfully only for my Lord and Savior Jesus. As Paul said, I count all things loss now. Phillipians 3:7-11 “But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.”
My life now embodies “To live is Christ and to die is gain.” And this is all because of God’s marvelous grace in my life. Hallelujah!
Dearest reader, I care so much for your soul so know that Jesus truly saves. He is the WAY, THE TRUTH and the LIFE and the only path to our Heavenly Father. Not Buddha, not Hinduism, not Allah. JESUS is the only name given that holds salvation onto eternal life. At the name of Jesus, all knees will bow and every tongue will confess that He is Lord. Pray earnestly and ask Him into your heart. Invite the Holy Spirit in. Repent and seek out the narrow gate which leads to life with all Your heart, mind and soul so you may have eternal life and not be damned to hell eternally away from God’s Presence.
ONCE AGAIN, WE ARE IN THE LAST DAYS AND THE DAY OF SALVATION IS NOW. As the apostle Paul said, examine yourselves to make sure you truly possess saving faith and not just professing faith...
